With the skilled workforce becoming increasingly scarce, ELGi found it challenging to find technically skilled talent to replace its older, skilled workforce. To address this requirement, ELGi institutionalized the vocational program. With over 400+ world-class products, ELGi needed talent that was not just highly committed to a long-term career but also keen to align with its high-quality standards. Thus, similar to its manufacturing processes, ELGi elected to "vertically integrate" its talent pipeline via the vocational program to identify talented youngsters from challenging backgrounds to fuel the next generation of production line talent at ELGi. This has resulted in the induction of 130 trainees from its vocational program. ELGi has an average employee tenure of twenty years and the lowest attrition level in the industry.
QUALITY TRAINING
FOR A PROMISING FUTURE
ELGi's vocational training program applies to needy students who have completed their 12th year of schooling. A strict screening process, which includes written and skill tests, interviews, medical checks, and background verification, ensures that students with potential and promise gain entry to the course. Over three years, the program provides these youngsters with technical training in basic engineering, and advanced production technology along with a monthly stipend.
STATE-OF-THE-ART FACILITIES
Located on the sprawling premises of ELGi's Air Centre Plant (ACP) in Kinathukadavu, Singarampalayam, on the outskirts of Coimbatore, and spread over an area of 18000 sq. ft., the ELGi Vocational Training School (EVTS) include three multimedia classrooms and practical labs for training in machining, assembly, welding, and electrical work. A yoga hall, ample space for indoor games, and an outdoor playground form other amenities.
ELGi'S DEVOTED TEAM
NURTURING TOMORROW'S TALENT
Dedicated ELGi employees from various functions run the training program. A fully equipped machine shop and dedicated classrooms with experienced faculty ensure quality education. ELGi's vocational program exposes students to a new way of life, moulding them for future success and equipping them for a fulfilling career. For ELGi, such students serve as vital cogs in its journey to be the best air compressor manufacturer in the world.
FROM TRAINEES TO LEADERS
WOMEN AT THE HELM OF
ELGi'S PRODUCTION
After running the program for six years for male trainees, ELGi decided to uplift the livelihood of females with similar backgrounds. Thus, in 2019, 19 female trainees were inducted into this program, followed by another 19 in 2021. They are trained equally to male trainees and deployed in various assembly shops of ELGi. Today, thirty young women who have successfully graduated from the ELGi Vocational Training School (EVTS) are managing operations at the airend assembly line, encapsulated airend assembly line, and the ELGi new generation compressor top block assembly line at the ELGi Air Center plant, delivering over 150 airends and top blocks daily.
INTRODUCING
B. VOC
IN PRODUCTION TECHNOLOGY
In August 2023, the Elgi Vocational Training School (EVTS) partnered with the Community College, Central University of Tamil Nฤdu, to introduce a three-year Bachelor of Vocation (B. Voc) program in Production Technology under the National Skill Qualification Framework (NSQF). The program aims to equip students with practical skills and theoretical knowledge essential for a successful career in the manufacturing industry. Under this unique partnership, approximately 100 students will have the opportunity to pursue the vocational course. The Community College of CUTN, through EVTS, will deliver the curriculum's theoretical components, while Elgi Equipments will provide 70% of the skill-based training at their state-of-the-art facility. Upon completing the three-year course, all the students will be absorbed as employees by Elgi Equipments, highlighting the company's commitment to nurturing youth and creating a pipeline of skilled talent.
