WORKING PRINCIPLE OF OIL-FREE AIR COMPRESSORS
Essentially, oil-free air compressors work on the same principle as oil-lubricated air compressors. However, there are some critical differences in the compression process. This is to ensure that the compressed air is devoid of any oil, which is present in the compressor mainly as a lubricant.
In the case of an oil-free rotary screw compressor, external gears synchronise the position of the counter-rotating screw elements. As the rotors do not come in contact and create friction, no lubrication is required within the compression chamber. For an oil-free piston air compressor, the compressing piston is coated with Teflon or any other certified safe material, thus eliminating the need for an oil or lubricant.
