The #ELGi100KMCHALLENGE marks ELGi’s presence in over 100 countries worldwide

ELGi employees demonstrate why "together works best" at the 6th edition of the Coimbatore Marathon

Coimbatore, October 6th, 2018: ELGi Equipments, one of the world’s leading air-compressor manufacturers powered the 6th edition of the Coimbatore Marathon, to be held on Sunday the 7th of October 2018. Over 1550 ELGi employees and their family members will be participating in the run, demonstrating their commitment to fitness and team spirit.

This year, ELGi launched the #ELGi100KMCHALLENGE, to celebrate its presence in over 100 countries across the world.

ELGi employees took on the challenge to cover 100kms in the quickest possible way; either by running, walking, jogging, biking and swimming. A total of 152 from the ELGi runners club participated in this challenge and the first 100 employees to complete the challenge were facilitated during the Pre-Marathon event today. In 2017, ELGi had challenged employees to collectively achieve 28251 miles in keeping the “CONQUER K2 Challenge” in line with the company vision to be the world’s number 2 in the air compressor business. The target figure 28,251 is derived from the height of K2 – the second tallest peak in the world, located in the Karakoram section of the Himalayas between Pakistan and China.

Speaking at the marathon, Ramesh Ponnusami, Executive Director, ELGi Equipments & Race Director of the Coimbatore Marathon said, “At ELGi, we care for our employees and try our level best to include some form of physical exercise into our everyday routine. In fact, we can proudly say that ever since our partnership with the Coimbatore Marathon, the overall fitness quotient of our employees has improved. This year, over 1500 ELGi employees and their family members are participating in the marathon. Whilst the theme for this year’s marathon is to “Inspire” and to “get inspired”, we believe that the inspiration should begin at home, at ELGi.”

With over 15,000+ participants registered this year, the Coimbatore Marathon is an annual initiative to raise awareness towards cancer and donate proceeds to Coimbatore Cancer Foundation.
