USE OF AIR COMPRESSORS IN THE TEXTILE INDUSTRY
Compressed air helps manufacturers in the textile industry overcome several challenges. One of these is cost reduction associated with operating and sustaining compressed air tools and support systems. Textile and fabric manufacturers want to improve productivity levels and increase uptime while ensuring that there is no contamination due to the mixing of air/fluid. Another challenge the textile industry aims to overcome is waste production by opting for sustainable solutions.
Air compressors in textile manufacturing are a major utility, and the design and selection of the compressor are of great significance as compressed air is required at every stage of manufacturing. Large volumes of air are required in cotton textile industries having Airjet Looms and in Polyester yarn industries. Compressed air is also critical in the PFY value-added segment, such as texturing.
Typically, power looms, process houses, and ginning mills require low air between 30-500 cfm. Denim spinning, medium PFY industries require medium air between 500-1,500 cfm. Large polyester yarn integrated plants, texturing units & integrated cotton textiles may require anywhere between 2,000-40,000 cfm.
THE USE OF COMPRESSED AIR IN TEXTILE MANUFACTURING INCLUDES:
Spinning and Ginning Mills: Compressed air is indispensable in powering diverse pneumatic systems within spinning and ginning mills. It facilitates the smooth and efficient operation of machinery in the initial stages of textile production, including carding and combing machines. ELGi's oil-free screw air compressors, particularly the ELGi EN Series Compressor, ensure Class 0 compressed air for optimal performance in these processes. For larger-scale textile manufacturing, a 160 kW screw compressor meets the increased air compression needs of the production line.
Air jet spinning & weaving: In air jet spinning and weaving, compressed air is pivotal for propelling yarn through nozzles at high velocities. This controlled airflow, generated by oil-free textile air compressors, is crucial for achieving precision and consistency in the textile manufacturing process.
Man-made fiber production – partially oriented yarn (POY) and fully oriented yarn (FOY): The production of partially oriented yarn (POY) and fully oriented yarn (FOY) involves intricate spinning and texturing processes. Compressed air is used for tasks like stretching and drawing fibers, contributing to the overall quality and strength of the final textile products.
Texturing units and adding details to materials: Compressed air finds application in texturing units, where it aids in enhancing the characteristics of textile materials. It is particularly useful in adding texture and detail to fabrics, contributing to the aesthetic appeal of the final products. A 90-kW screw compressor significantly enhances the efficiency and productivity of industrial operations, ensuring a reliable and powerful compressed air supply for diverse applications.
Winding and dying of non-woven materials: Compressed air is used in the winding and dying processes of non-woven materials. It ensures precise control over tension and facilitates the even distribution of dyes, contributing to the uniformity and quality of the finished textiles.
Pneumatic transport for PET chips and Powering cleaning tools: Compressed air is employed in the pneumatic transport of PET chips within the manufacturing facility. This enhances efficiency in material handling, facilitating the seamless movement of raw materials to different stages of the production process.
Textile manufacturing environments require consistent cleanliness. Compressed air powers cleaning tools such as air blowguns and vacuum systems, ensuring a dust-free and efficient workspace.
Treatment of Wastewater: Compressed air is used for aeration in wastewater treatment processes. This involves injecting air into wastewater to stimulate the growth of beneficial microorganisms, aid in the breakdown of pollutants, and improve overall water quality before discharge.
OIL-FREE COMPRESSOR FOR TEXTILE INDUSTRY
Most textile companies rely on reliable, clean, Class 0 oil-free air for these processes. Using oil-free compressors to deliver the highest quality textiles and fabrics reduces the chances of rejection and optimises production with less idle time and extended intervals between servicing. Contact with oil (from the air compressors) can leave grease stains on fabric, causing it to darken and damaged/unusable end products. So, it is recommended that oil-free compressed air be used throughout the production process to reduce the risks of rejections.
In the textile industry, oil-free screw air compressors play a pivotal role in ensuring the quality of the finished fabric, where jet looms need dry and oil-free compressed air. The ELGi EN Series and EG Series oil-free screw air compressors are designed specifically for textile manufacturing processes and provide Class 0 compressed air. This adherence to the highest standards ensures unparalleled quality and reliability within the industry.
